German Rewe Group's supermarket division Billa wants to maintain its expansion pace in Russia, reports Ria Novosti. Billa plans to open 10-15 new stores every year, by means of organic expansion or smaller acquisitions. Currently Billa operates 87 supermarkets in 11 Russian towns, with 65 in Moscow.
Billa has opened 16 supermarkets so far this year, including 12 converted Citystore outlets bought from Turkey-based competitor Enka Group. "We do not plan to slow the speed of our expansion," Billa Russia Managing Director Dimitar Peshev said.
